Don’t Know Where To Stay in Milos? Salt Suites is Your Answer

I recently returned back from a whirlwind trip to Greece. Greece had been on my bucket list for a very long time, and with lockdowns being lifted slightly, I knew it was the perfect place to spend the end of summer. I traveled the week after peak season ended and I was actually worried it wouldn’t be lively and it’d be a little chilly. Boy was I wrong - it was perfect - and let me just start by advising everyone to go to Greece in mid-end September. There were still crowds (I wouldn’t have wanted any more people), it was still so summery and warm, and things were a little cheaper too as it was off-season.

During my 13-days, I visited Athens, Mykonos, Santorini, and Milos. I’m so glad I saved the best till last, Milos was just pure magic. I think a big mistake a lot of us make when traveling or going on vacation is we pack so much in that it doesn’t end up being a break. By the time we get back, we need a vacation from our vacation. Knowing this is how I’ve done things in the past and not once has it served me, I ensured Milos was the last part of my trip and that too, a very relaxing time.

I arrived in Milos via the super shuttle ferry from Santorini. With transport not being too regular around the island, I opted for a taxi to my resort, Salt Suites. The smooth 12 minute afternoon ride from Adamas to Pollonia was beautiful, but the arrival to my stay was something else.

The while stone walls with an arch entrance made me feel right at home. As I walked down a few steps to the reception area, waiting for me was a lovely lady with a shot glass and sweets in hand. I downed the shot of tsipouro, an unaged Greek brandy, and proceeded to cleanse my palate with the pink very sweet, sweet.

She progressed to show me to my room named, Kleftiko - named after a must-see south part of the island, which unfortunately due to bad weather I did not get a chance to visit.

As soon as the doors were opened, I was sent straight to heaven. The minimal yet tasteful decor with natural statement pieces stood out first and foremost. While furniture and seating were kept to a neutral color palette, the tiling on the kitchen’s splash-back really brought color and energy into the place.

For me, it was straight to the outdoor area, perched directly in front of the setting sun. With a large rocking hammock chair, seating for many, and a hot tub - it was escapism at its finest. With the setting sun waiting for no one, I quickly visited the upstairs area before jumping into the hot tub.

Wooden floorboards led to the top level of the house. The master bedroom large enough for a family sported a queen-size bed and an ensuite to die for. A stone shower with a rainfall showerhead stole the show, all inside what felt like a shower that had been carved out of a large stone.

A large balcony where you could hear the glorious sound of crashing waves was also attached to the master bedroom, with an additional sleeping area attached on the other side with another balcony.

Quickly, I put on my swimmers and headed downstairs to take in the indescribable sunset and views that came with it. A large rock took center stage with the sun setting directly behind it. Pure magic with peace and serenity included. While neighbors from other houses were next door, everyone had their own privacy and existed in silence with Mother Nature putting on her show.

Next, it was time to experience firsthand the stone shower and the rainfall shower head in its glory. Now let me preface, I had the highest of hopes for this shower experience. Athens, my hotel only had shampoo and no conditioner, Mykonos, my hotel had shampoo and conditioner combined, and Santorini, my hotel had shampoo, conditioner, AND body wash combined - it was no from me. So you best believe the first thing I checked when arriving at Salt Suites was the hair and body wash situation. To my delight, we had shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and even moisturizer all separate and ready to be used.

Shower time was everything I had dreamed of, wished for, and expected from Salt Suites. After lathering myself in their luxurious moisturizer, it was time to head out for dinner. There aren’t big chain hotels in Milos, mostly just small family-owned businesses, all close together. So even though I had my Google maps on leading the way into town, there were a few other tourists also heading that way so we walked together. Even though it was dark with very minimal street lighting, I felt safe as a solo traveler.

When you get into the town of Pollonia, it’s all lit up and alive. I walked up and down the strip trying to find a place where I wanted to eat and settled for a delicious tortellini pasta dish. I headed back soon after and enjoyed an early night.

The next morning at 8 am on the dot there was a knock at the door. Breakfast was served. As someone who’s a very light sleeper, especially when in a new place, it’s saying something when I say I was still in a very deep sleep when they arrived. I quickly came downstairs half disorientated to open the door to a lovely gentleman with a large wooden serving tray. He left it in the kitchen and went on with his day.

When I tell you I’ve never had freshly squeezed orange juice like this before, believe me! It wasn’t overly sweet, it wasn’t overly sour - it was perfect. As was the fruit, yogurt, and bread roll I’d also requested.

While the day started of perfectly, it sure didn’t go that way. But may I note, it everything but Salt Suites - they had nothing to do with it! I’ll spare you the details for another time (or just watch the video below) - all’s included! The saving grace of the day, returning back to Salt for my new afternoon hot tub sunset routine.

Another beautiful shower and hair wash session (because why not!) before getting ready to head out and explore Pollonia town for dinner again. I ended up eating at the same place and ordered the tortellini again, but this time honey and almond - a must-try!

With one more day in the beautiful Salt Suites, this routine continued one more time. There is nothing I can fault or have wished more for from Salt Suites. It was the perfect way to end a trip - basking in true luxury while Mother Nature does her thing before your eyes. I was so relaxed, was so grateful, and my stay really brought me back in touch with nature, people, good food, and beautiful sites around the island.

If you’re wondering if you should visit Milos - absolutely! And where to stay, there’s lots of little great places around the island, but I couldn’t recommend Salt Suites in Pollonia more. Treat yourself, you deserve it!
